The Commission has announced the three institutions that have won the “Gender Equality Champions” award for 2023. They are France’s Center National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Spain’s Universitat Rovira i Virgili and the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest of Ireland. Each winner will receive a prize of 100,000 euros.

Mrs. Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth said: “I would like to congratulate the winners of the “Horizon Europe” prize for champions of gender equality. Their amazing achievements in enhancing gender equality in the working environment inspire institutions across the European Research Area. I look forward to seeing how our new champions will work together and strengthen the Champions Association that was launched last year with the first award of this award!”

The European Commission launched the EU Gender Equality Champions Award 2022 to recognize and honor the outstanding results achieved by European academic and research institutions through the implementation of gender equality action plans. Its purpose is to complement and strengthen the eligibility criterion of the gender equality action plan and to provide an incentive to promote gender inclusive plans and policies in the context of the new European Research Area (ERA).
