A drone with the Russian flag hanging from it flew for a few minutes over the German Federal Parliament building.

Its owner, a Ukrainian who is a staunch supporter of Vladimir Putin, has previously been convicted of pro-Russian propaganda.

According to the Tagesspiegel, Bild and Maerkischer Allgemeine newspapers, Ivan T., 41, sent the drone flying the Russian flag on May 9, the day commemorating the victory of the Allied forces over Nazi Germany, even filming himself. as he laughed and chatted with passers-by, some of whom remarked that this was a “provocative” act.

Minutes later, the man was arrested by Bundestag police officers, who confiscated the drone, Russian flags and ribbons of the Order of St. George.

As it turned out, he, who is originally from Odesa and arrived in Germany in the summer of 2022, aims to show that there are many Ukrainians who see themselves as part of the “great Russian nation” and support Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.

In May 2023 he was given a one-year suspended prison sentence for damaging foreign property, pro-Russian propaganda and supporting Russia’s war of aggression.

He had painted the “Z” symbol on the walls of the Brandenburg state parliament, while he had placed the Russian flag on the roof of the building. A few days later, he cut out the face of a Ukrainian mother on a poster and replaced it with the words “Ukraine does not exist”.

When he was arrested he stated that he was aware of the relevant ban, “but there are acts for which one must take responsibility”.

The videos he creates are causing excitement among users of social networking sites in Russia. In particular, the image of the Russian flag above the German parliament has particular symbolism, since it refers to the raising of the USSR flag on the Reichstag by the Red Army after the capture of Berlin.

Flying drones over federal government buildings is prohibited. The no-fly zone around the parliament extends to a radius of 5.6 kilometers.
