The gunman who seriously wounded Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico last Wednesday may not have acted alone after all, Interior Minister Matus Sutai Estok said yesterday, speaking to reporters in Bratislava.

“We have set up an investigation team which will also examine the version that it was not a ‘lone wolf'”, said the minister.

One of the “indications” that the attacker had accomplices is that content posted on his personal account on the social networking site Facebook was deleted while he was in police custody and had no access, he explained.

Mr Fitzo is out of danger but still in a serious condition after the attempt on his life, Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak told public news agency TASR earlier yesterday.

The gunman who attempted to assassinate Slovakia’s 59-year-old prime minister, a writer, remains in custody after what authorities have described as a “politically” motivated crime.

Home Secretary Estok issued a stern warning to “all trolls” online who applaud the attempt or spread hate messages and incite further violence, stressing that the authorities will act, find the “agitators” and make sure they are held accountable.
