Lukashenko: The Russian army is not involved in the Russian invasion of Ukraine

by

Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that his country’s army, which is an ally of Moscow, is not involved in the invasion of Ukraine which was launched by Russia in the morning, while according to Kiev Russia is using the Belarusian territory for its invasion.

According to RIA, Lukashenko also suggested holding talks between Russia and Ukraine in Minsk.

“Our troops are not taking any part in this operation,” Lukashenko told a meeting of the chiefs of staff of his country’s armed forces.

According to Kiev, Russian forces are using Belarusian territory – where their troops have been camping for weeks for military exercises – in their offensive against Ukraine.

According to Lukashenko, the Russian president, who called him, “gave him a very detailed briefing on the situation” and told him that the purpose of the invasion was to “end the genocide of the population in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.”

These two pro-Russian separatist territories in eastern Ukraine have been at war with Ukrainian forces since 2014, and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognized their independence.
