The Spanish government demands that Israel comply with its mandate supreme court of the UN and to immediately end the bombing and ground attacks in the city of Rafah, Gaza. Madrid stresses that Friday’s ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague is legally binding.

“The preventive measures set by the ICJ, including that Israel should stop its military offensive in Rafah, are mandatory. Israel must comply with them’ wrote Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez in X.

“The same applies to the ceasefire, the release of hostages and access for humanitarian aid [στη Γάζα]”, he added. “The suffering of the people of Gaza and the violence must stop.”

Spain is one of the European countries that they are more critical of Israel for his stance on the war against Hamas. On Wednesday, Spain, Ireland and Norway announced that their governments would recognize a Palestinian state starting next week. Tel Aviv summoned its diplomats to “rebuke” them over the decision and on Friday said it would bar the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem from helping Palestinians in the West Bank.
