Russia is targeting Kiev, says Ukrainian General Staff

by

The Russian army has already advanced on Ukraine, the Ukrainian General Staff recognized last Thursday night.

Russia is now mobilizing troops in the eastern Kharkiv and Danietsk regions, as well as in the south, a spokesman for the staff said.

According to him, the main goal of the Russian forces seems to be the siege of Kiev.

They also seem to be seeking to build a land corridor from the Crimean peninsula to separatist areas in the east of the country and also targeting the Transnistrian region of Moldova.

He noted that battles are unfolding in the region of Hersonissos, in the south.

He also said that an operation was carried out to deploy 200 members of the Russian air force at Gostomel Airport, west of Kiev, but that the Ukrainian army was able to prevent it.

According to the staff representative, 60 battalions of the Russian army are operating in Ukraine, flexible, fast-moving units with 600 to 1,000 men. Ukrainian sources estimate that a total of about 90 Russian battalions had gathered in anticipation of the invasion.
