Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the NATO summit in July should handle the issue of Ukraine’s invitation to join the Alliance, speaking at a press conference in Stockholm today.
“The summit should be productive, and Ukraine considers that this cannot be achieved without mentioning the issue of inviting Ukraine (to join) NATO,” Zelensky said.
In addition, he said that it is only a matter of time before Ukraine uses Western weapons to strike Russian soil.
It is noted that yesterday the president of the United States, Joe Biden, gave the “green light” to the use of American weapons for strikes against targets in Russian territory near Kharkiv, according to American officials.
On condition of anonymity, they clarify that Washington does not allow Kiev to use ATACMS or long-range missiles to strike targets deep inside Russia.
As they explain, the Biden administration is allowing the use of US weapons to counterattack in the Kharkiv region so that Kiev can target Russian armed forces that are already attacking or preparing to attack the Ukrainian military. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is also in favor, stressing that Ukraine has a right to defend itself and that includes strikes against targets on Russian soil.
