The former director of the Wall Street Journal, will take Busby’s position until the US presidential election in November
He resigned her director Washington PostSally Busby, suddenly out of her position as the historic American newspaper is in the process of a major restructuring, as its chief announced late last night.
Busby, who took up the post in 2021, was the paper’s first female editor in 150 years.
Her departure is part of the wider one political restructuring of the issuer and the paper’s managing director, William Lewis, since he took over in January, the paper said.
According to Lewis, Matt Murray, the former editor of the Wall Street Journal, will take over Buzby’s position until the US presidential election in November.
No reason was given for the departure of Busby, who had been his publicist Associated Press.
In an email to the paper’s staff, Lewis says he plans to establish “a new department in the newsroom” this year.
This will be separate from the traditional newsroom and editorial department.
It will focus on “social media journalism”, while it will also make use of artificial intelligence, Lewis added in his message to staff.
Murray will oversee the new department after the election, according to Lewis, while “core areas of (reporting) coverage” such as politics, business and features will be under the responsibility of Robert Winnett, a veteran group reporter. Telegraph.
Lewis recently acknowledged heavy losses for the Washington Post over the past year, reaching $77 million as cost-cutting efforts include proposals to voluntarily retire hundreds of employees at the end of 2023.
The newspaper reported that in recent months Lewis has also hired other colleagues who worked at the Dow Jones Group (owner of the Post) in other key positions at the newspaper.
Dow Jones and the Journal are majority-owned by Rupert Murdoch, whose family also controls Fox Corporation, which owns Fox News.
