UKHSA issues emergency health warning due to outbreak of E.coli infections.

As announced, they have been reported at least 113 cases of E.coli, 81 in England, 18 in Wales, 13 in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland while 37 of those infected in England had to be hospitalized.

The public health agency estimates based on the geographic spread of the cases that the outbreak is due to one or more contaminated foods available around the country. The specific food or foods have not yet been identified. However, the transmission of medium water has been blocked.

Patients range in age from two to 79, with the majority being young adults.

E.coli infection can cause severe bloody diarrhea and in some cases even more serious complications.

Transmission occurs by eating contaminated food, but also by contact with sick people.

Citizens are asked to wash their hands thoroughly and often and to observe hygiene rules when eating and preparing meals.
