“The Israeli government has told us it will release more information about this strike,” a State Department spokesman said.
The US embassy on Thursday demanded from Israel “full transparency” about the bombing of a school run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.
“The Israeli government has told us it will release more information about this strike, including the names of those killed,” and “we expect it to be fully transparent in releasing that information,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.
A hospital in the Gaza Strip said yesterday that at least 37 people were killed in the bombing of a school run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The Israeli armed forces confirmed that they carried out the bombing and emphasized that the target was a “Hamas base”, according to them.
Mr Miller said Hamas members used to hide among civilians but Washington was waiting for more information.
“We saw the claims that 14 children were killed in the bombing, and certainly when you see — if that’s true — 14 children were killed, those are not terrorists,” he explained.
