“The right to self-defense also includes the right to strike legitimate, military targets on the territory of the attacking party, in this case, Russia”

“The right to self-defense also includes the right to strike legitimate, military targets on the territory of the attacking party; in this case, of Russia” said the NATO Secretary General.
NATO member countries face “no direct military threat” from Russia, Jens Stoltenberg reiterated.
“As long as we leave no room for misunderstandings or miscalculations in Moscow or other capital countries that can potentially attack us, there is no military threat against NATO countries,” Stoltenberg said during a press conference in Stockholm with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson. .

Responding to a question about the possibility that Russia is testing the commitment of NATO countries to defend one of its members in the event of an attack under Article 5 of the treaty, Stoltenberg replied: “We see no immediate military threat against a NATO country”.
“Consequently, we do not believe that Article 5 will be put to the test,” added the NATO secretary general, who is visiting Sweden.
The Kremlin recently accused the Atlantic alliance of starting “a new cycle of escalation” after the United States decided to allow Kiev to attack targets in Russia in order to defend the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
For its part, France announced the concession yesterday, Thursday evening Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets in Kiev, with Russia estimating that France is “ready to participate directly in the conflict”.
Ulf Kristerson announced for his part that the Swedish fighters will participate in the air surveillance of the Alliancemainly with Grippen aircraft, in the Baltic Sea.
The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, who is visiting France, for his part again asked his Western allies to “do more” to help Kiev in the face of Russian aggression.
