Israel’s war cabinet minister, Benny Gantz, postponed a press conference he had previously announced for Saturday afternoon, at which he was expected to announce his departure from the emergency government.

Gantz’s office announced Saturday that the press conference would be postponed due to the release of the four Israeli hostages in a special operation in central Gaza.

Gantz warned last month that he and his National Unity party would resign from the government if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not submit a plan for the release of the hostages and a strategy for post-war Gaza by June 8.

According to Israeli media, Benny Gadz was to announce his resignation today as his ultimatum to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expires.

Kan public broadcaster reported on Thursday, without citing sources, that the US government had tried to persuade Gantz to delay his planned departure amid ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas in Gaza.
