“Tomorrow I will resign as prime minister,” De Croix announced
Belgian leader Alexandre de Croix said he would resign as prime minister on Monday morning after his centre-right Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats party was defeated in Sunday’s national election.
“For us it was a particularly difficult night, we lost. Tomorrow I will resign,” he told supporters at a rally. “From tomorrow I will be interim prime minister.”
The Belgian prime minister, in fact, couldn’t stand it and burst into tears in front of the cameras. Watch the video:

Open VLD scored 5.7%, according to exit polls, down 2.8 percentage points on the 2019 result. The party’s president, Tom Ongena, also said he would step down.
De Croix will remain interim prime minister until a new government is formed.
“I am convinced that we need a new government quickly, with full powers,” he added. “The message from the voters is clear.”
