The first place is maintained by the “Brothers of Italy” party of Georgia Meloni, as according to the exit poll published by the Italian channel Rai, it gathers between 25-30% of the votes in the European elections.

The Democratic Party PD follows in second place with 21-25%.

The Five Star Movement appears to be gathering 10-14%, while the Forza Italia party founded by Silvio Berlusconi is in fourth place with 8.5-10%, apparently beating Salvini’s far-right League of the North which it seems to collect 8-10%.

According to the Guardian, Salvini hoped to regain some ground by supporting independent candidate Roberto Vanacci, a general who was fired from the army for views deemed offensive to gays and minorities.

It is recalled that the “Brothers of Italy” collected only 6.4% in the European elections of 2019. However, in the national elections of 2022, they managed to surpass all other parties, collecting a percentage of 26%. Meloni’s party is seen as the main heir to the Italian far-right, and her victory in 2022 is said to have set the tone for the rise of the far-right in Europe in general.
