In a terse statement, the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Authority, which is based in the occupied West Bank, announced the deaths of four Palestinians from “occupational fire” (Israel’s statement) in Kfar Niama, a village northwest of Ramallah.
The Palestinian Authority announced overnight Monday to Tuesday the deaths of four Palestinians, including an attack suspect wanted by Israel, in an Israeli army operation near Ramallah, the latest episode to add to an endless series of similar ones in the occupied West Bank against the backdrop of war in the Gaza Strip.
In a terse statement, the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Authority, which is based in the occupied West Bank, announced the deaths of four Palestinians from “occupational fire” (Israel’s statement) in Kfar Niama, a village northwest of Ramallah.
In response, the Fatah party of Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, announced a “general strike” today in the Ramallah sector in condemnation of these “murders” and that a planned demonstration in support of Palestinian prisoners would go ahead as normal.
One of the four dead was allegedly attacked a few hours earlier in an arbitrary settlement, in Sde Ephraim, in the occupied West Bank, according to a statement by the Israeli police.
Police and army forces were deployed in Kfar Niama to “arrest one of the terrorists who committed an attack against Jews and set fire to a detached house in Sde Ephraim farm,” Israeli police said.
When “the forces of order arrived at the location where the suspects were hiding, the terrorist (who allegedly attacked Sde Ephraim) and three others tried to escape in a vehicle and attempted to hit police officers who were operating in the area. Law enforcement forces opened fire on the vehicle and neutralized the terrorists,” added the same source, also claiming that “explosives” and an automatic weapon were seized.
Since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7, violence has escalated further in the West Bank, an area occupied by the Israeli army since the 1967 war.
Since October, at least 524 Palestinians have been killed, including those who died last night, in Israeli army operations and attacks by Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to an AFP tally based on statements from Palestinian authorities.
On the other hand, at least 14 Israelis have been killed in attacks in this area, according to official figures from the Israeli authorities.
