Germany: Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech in the Bundestag in a charged atmosphere

“Thank you Germany!” With these words, in a particularly charged atmosphere, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky from the floor of the Bundestag, he expressed his gratitude for Germany’s economic, military, political and humanitarian support and declared his conviction that “no wall lasts forever”.

“Everybody feels that war is not right. War is a crime against life. I would like to thank you for allowing humanity to rule your hearts. Germany did not leave our side in the face of our country’s suffering. Thank you, Germany,” said the Ukrainian president and emphasized that “it is in our common interest that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally loses the war, as he is used to subjugating others.” “The war must end in a way that leaves no doubt as to who won,” he said, calling on his allies to work together to end the war and prevent Russia from continuing its march into Europe. “Russia must take full responsibility for starting the war and pay for the great damage it has caused,” he continued and warned that “the time for compromise is over.”

Referring to the Berlin Wall and the divided Europe, Mr. Zelensky pointed out that Ukraine is resisting precisely Russia’s attempt to divide it. “A divided Europe has never been peaceful and a divided Germany has never been happy,” he said and expressed the belief that all walls eventually fall. “Will there be security and peace in Europe? I am confident that we will find the right answer and achieve an end to this war,” concluded Volodymyr Zelensky.
