Russia’s armed forces launched a one-way missile and unmanned aerial vehicle raid on Kiev in the early hours of this morning, which was repelled without initial reports of injuries or damage, the Ukrainian capital’s military administration said via Telegram.

Ukrainian air defenses destroyed all the weapon systems that were launched as they approached the city, Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv military command, assured. He clarified that according to the first information, it was a combination of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones.

The scope of the attack is not yet clear.

The Reuters news agency reports that several explosions were heard on airwaves in and around Kiev, which appeared to be due to interceptions. The agency notes that it was unable to immediately independently verify what kind of weapons were used.

It is not yet known if there was any damage in the Kyiv region, a separate administrative entity, in the area surrounding it.

An alert was declared in areas from end to end of Ukraine after 03:00 (local time and Greece time), including in areas neighboring NATO member state Poland.

Polish and allied fighter jets were rushed to take off as a precaution, the operational command of Poland’s armed forces said via X. This is a frequent measure when Russia launches airstrikes in western Ukrainian regions.
