Rishi Sunak is not a fan of healthy eating and is not shy about revealing it in public, especially if it gets him some votes ahead of the British elections.

Asked by co-host of his Sky News telefight with Labor leader Keir Starmer, Beth Rigby, about his previous nickname “Rishi Kid” and after she pleaded with him to reveal something personal that could endear him to voters , Sunak replied:

“I really have a terrible diet because I eat a huge amount of sugar and I’m very unhealthy in that regard, which I was discussing with someone earlier today. They were completely shocked.”

The Prime Minister added: “They were genuinely surprised at the amount of Haribo and Twix and everything else I consume, especially during an election campaign.”

It is not the first time that the prime minister has referred to his diet during the election campaign. Last month he admitted that his fitness had taken a “hit” after constantly eating cakes and chocolates to keep him going during the campaign.

The prime minister, who is known to be fond of using an exercise bike and also does intermittent fasting, told reporters last month: “My normal fitness has taken a bit of a hit but I’m walking a lot, if anything, but I’m eating too much lots of chocolate on the way.

“Because we go out and talk to a lot of people, it keeps me in shape to go across the country and talk to as many people as possible,” Sunak said.

In his previous post as Britain’s finance minister, Sunak had revealed, speaking to Times Radio, the problem of his addiction to sweets and sweets.

“I generally have a routine before matches, before matches, when it’s time to go to the floor of parliament. Look, I have a sugar addiction problem and I usually have a Twix and a can of Sprite, although I prefer Coca Cola, but I save it for later,” he said and added:

“A Twix and a can of Sprite, which my office manager makes sure are always on my seat in Parliament, are what I consume to get energy.”
