An Israeli court has approved an extension of the state-ordered shutdown of Qatar’s Al Jazeera television network for another 45 days, according to Israeli press reports Thursday.

A Tel Aviv court has deemed it proven that there is a link between the emirate’s television network and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, according to reports.

He approved an application by the Minister of Communications Shlomo Karchi.

Last week the Israeli judiciary had already upheld the suspension of the broadcast of all the network’s content in Israel for 35 days. He considered it proven that the medium poses a threat to Israel’s national security because of its alleged relationship with Hamas.

According to Israel’s state broadcaster Kan, the court based on “confidential” documents called the network a Hamas propaganda channel.

According to the same source, Al Jazeera is said to have, for example, “explained” in its broadcast how armored personnel carriers can be destroyed.

Qatar Television — its cable and satellite signal, as well as its content posted on its website and more broadly online — was banned in early May by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The development caused reactions at the international level. The Qatar network itself rejects Israeli accusations of bias and propaganda, strongly protested the decision and has vowed to challenge it legally.
