“Today is a truly historic day“, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, referring to the bilateral security agreement between the US and Ukraine, which was signed today on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy.

Volodymyr Zelensky warmly thanked Joe Biden for the deal, which he described as the “most important” reached for Ukraine since his country’s independence in 1991.

The agreement reached at the G7 summit to tap frozen Russian assets to bolster Ukraine shows Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin that “we’re not backing down,” US President Joe Biden said.

This plan and the bilateral security agreement between Washington and Kiev “show Putin that he will not wear us down, that he cannot divide us,” the US president said during a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart.

Zelensky claims to have received assurances from Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured Volodymyr Zelensky that China does not intend to sell weapons to Russia, the Ukrainian president claimed at the same press conference.

As President Zelensky said, he received this assurance during his telephone conversation with Xi Jinping, but did not specify when it was made.
