Visible risk of interruptions in water supply during the tourist season
Faced with danger water shortage is Gavdos, which faces a serious water problem. Due to the mild winter and the lack of rain, the water reserves have not been renewed satisfactorily and – given the tourist season – the risk of water shortages and interruptions in the water supply is visible.
Faced with this situation, the Municipality appeals to residents and tourists for “judicious use” of water, stressing that “it is not enough for watering gardens and crops”.
The announcement in detail
“A CALL FOR WATER ECONOMY
In recent days, water consumption far exceeds the island’s capacity. In addition, the extremely low rainfall of the previous winter does not allow us to be optimistic about water reserves.
Everyone, residents and visitors, are invited to make judicious use of water and to remember that water is not enough for watering gardens and crops.
The needs as we move towards the peak of the tourist season will increase and if we are not all careful it will require restriction and frequent interruptions in the water supply.
Please for your cooperation.”
