The summit is the highest level of decision-making in the Alliance and will mark the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington
President and Chief of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev will participate in the upcoming NATO summit to be held from July 9 to 11 in Washington, the cabinet announced today.
Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dimitar Glavchev will also take part in the meeting, according to the government’s press service.
The summit is the highest level of decision-making in the Alliance and will mark the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington.
The decisions to be taken at the summit entail the implementation of long-term commitments by the allies, with a particular emphasis on investments in the defense of each NATO member country and long-term support for Ukraine as well as its economic support, the statement noted.
On Thursday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev sent a letter to National Assembly Speaker Raya Nazarian and caucuses of the 50th parliament asking them to decide who will represent Bulgaria at the NATO summit.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and the We Continue Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) alliance opposed Radev’s representation of the country, asking the prime minister to do so, while the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP ) would like the country to be represented by the president. The Velici party said the decision should be taken by the cabinet.
