President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Saturday (26), on social media, that the Brazilian embassy in Kiev boarded about 40 Brazilians by train to the city of Chernivtsi, Ukraine, near the border with Romania.
From there, they will go to the Brazilian embassy in Bucharest. “There has already been confirmation that other Brazilians, accompanied by other Latin American citizens, crossed the same point of the border this morning and are on their way to the Romanian capital,” Bolsonaro said.
“Itamaraty leads the operation in direct contact with authorities at the central train station in Kiev, with the local authorities in Chernivtsi and with the Romanian immigration authorities.”
According to him, if they want to return to Brazil, the government will provide means of transport, such as commercial or FAB planes.
The Brazilian embassy in Ukraine announced this Saturday (26) that due to the difficult situation at the border posts with Poland and other neighboring countries, citizens who want to leave the country should seek temporary shelter in places close to where they are.
In a statement on its Telegram account, the diplomatic representation also said that there are “many reports of crowds, delays that can last for days, aggressive behavior, lack of accommodation and basic necessities” in regions that concentrate a large flow of people trying to escape the war.
The embassy recalls that the capital of Ukraine, because of the Russian invasion, is under curfew until next Monday (28) and informs that it is “doing its best to contact the Ukrainian authorities”, but that the contacts are difficult due to the context of the conflict.
After four months of crisis with the West, Russia decided to attack Ukraine and establish a military presence in Donbass.
The Ukrainian government initially called the actions a full-scale invasion, although the Russians denied it. The conflict affects several parts of Ukraine and has reached the capital, Kiev.
The Jair Bolsonaro government (PL) has decided to suspend a visit scheduled for April by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Rio de Janeiro.
Mishustin was due to travel to Rio to participate in the meeting of the Brazilian-Russian High-Level Cooperation Commission, chaired by the Russian prime minister and, on the Brazilian side, by Vice President Hamilton Mourão.
The government’s internal assessment is that receiving Mishustin in Brazil would be interpreted as a sign of alignment with President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
It would be a signal against what the country started to adopt, as of Friday (25), at the UN Security Council (United Nations): condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in the harshest terms. , in violation of the Charter of the United Nations.
