Israeli civilian was killed today by gunshots received in the Palestinian city of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank, the Israeli army announced.

Israeli forces arrived in the area shortly after the incident and are investigating what happened, the army added, without elaborating.

At the moment, the Palestinian side has not commented on this news.

Israel’s public broadcaster Kan reported that the man was shot and killed when he entered Qalqilya in his car. His car was later set on fire, he added.

Violence in the West Bank, already escalating before the October 7 attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in southern Israel that sparked the Gaza war, has escalated further, with stepped-up Israeli military raids, settler attacks and Palestinian attacks on roads.

Yesterday, Friday, Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinian gunmen in a shootout during an arrest raid in Qalqilya, according to Israeli police.
