Tens of thousands of people poured into the streets of Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities on Saturday night to denounce the Netanyahu government and demand a deal to free the hostages held by Hamas.

Organizers of the Tel Aviv rally said last night’s demonstration was the largest since the outbreak of war. Israeli reports said there were about 150,000 anti-government protesters in Tel Aviv, while vigorous demonstrations also took place in Jerusalem, Haifa and other cities.

Addressing the crowd in Tel Aviv, Yuval Diskin, former head of the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security service) called Benjamin Netanyahu “the worst prime minister” Israel has ever had.

“I am here because I fear for the future of my grandchildren. There will be no future for them if we don’t get rid of this awful government,” said 66-year-old Sai Errell.

On the occasion of the birthday of 20-year-old Naama Levi, who is among the hostages missing in the Gaza Strip, protesters released balloons into the sky and handed out cupcakes. “She should have been here with her family and friends,” said father Yoni Levi, 52, who was wearing a T-shirt with his daughter’s photo.

The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported in a recent report that the hostages still alive may be only about 50. Officially, the fate of around 120 prisoners abducted in the October 7 attack and taken to the Gaza Strip is still unknown.
