Barack Obama was quick to defend Joe Biden for his admittedly poor showing in the debate by Donald Trump. “Bad debate nights happen. Believe me, I know,” he told X.

“But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary people all his life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth… who knows right from wrong and will speak directly to the American people — and someone who blatantly lies for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and that’s why so much is at stake in November,” Obama concluded, including a link to Biden’s campaign website.

The US president, however, said he intends to win the presidential election in November, a day after he was criticized for his performance in the debate.

“I intend to win this election,” Biden said at a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. “I know I’m not young, that goes without saying. Well, I know I don’t walk as easily as I used to, I don’t talk as clearly as I used to, I don’t converse as well as I used to, but I know what I know. I know how to tell the truth,” the president said.
