Four people are still missing in southeastern Switzerland after severe weather hit the region over the weekend, raising the toll to four dead and six missing in the country, authorities said.

According to the police of the canton of Ticino – where the Maggia valley was severely affected on Saturday by torrential rains – the four new missing persons are two women and two men.

Three people lost their lives from a landslide that occurred over the weekend in his canton Ticino. The fate of a man was already unknown.

In his cantonment Come onthe rains and a overflow of the Rhône caused very significant material damage.

One person lost his life in the town of Saas-Grud: a 67-year-old German was trapped by the water and he drowned in the basement of a city hotel.

Another man is still missing in that county, according to authorities.

As the Maggia River swept away a bridge near Cevio, the upper part of the valley is no longer accessible except by plane, and the army has been mobilized to quickly restore road access.

Yesterday, Monday, the electricity supply was interrupted in a part of the valley, as well as the supply of drinking water.
