Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Friday, according to Radio Free Europe and the Financial Times newspaper.

Earlier, European Council President Charles Michel stressed that “the EU’s rotating presidency does not have a mandate to engage in dialogue with Russia on behalf of the EU” in response to reports that according to a Hungarian government source, Viktor Orbán, the prime minister of the country holding the presidency for the current semester, he is expected to visit Russia on July 5 and having already gone to Ukraine.

In his post on Platform X, Charles Michel points out that “the European Council is clear: Russia is the aggressor, Ukraine is the victim. No discussion about Ukraine can take place without Ukraine.”
