An incredible family tragedy – involving the father of the family himself – happened in Sydney, Australia and today it is on the front page of all the local media.

A 28-year-old man with 7 children set fire to his house, in Laylor Park, about 35 kilometers from the center of Sydney, around one in the morning on Saturday (18:00 yesterday Saturday Greek time), as a result of which three of his children lost their life.

Two small boys, aged two and four, were given first aid at the scene, but succumbed after being taken to hospital.

A 10-month-old baby girl was found dead inside the property after the fire was extinguished, police said.

Four other children, aged six to 11, are in a stable condition, as is their mother, his 29-year-old partner Stacey Gammage, who was admitted for smoke inhalation.

Dean Heasman tried to stop the police from entering the house, and was arrested, himself suffering from burns.

The neighbors who rushed to the scene and tried desperately to save the children from the burning house, were pushed away by their father.

Also, according to the DailyMail, sources claim that the father allegedly tried to pull the children back into the burning house as firefighters tried to pull them out and save them.

Witnesses heard Heasman yelling something like, “Let me die here” as the fire raged.

Serial intentional homicide

The 28-year-old is in hospital under high security and – according to a police officer – is “known” to NSW law enforcement agencies.

The investigation into the case has been taken over by members of the crime-for-life unit, which is handling the case as a “serial homicide” linked to domestic disputes, their chief, Danny Doherty, said.

“At this stage, it does appear that the 29-year-old is responsible for the deaths of the young children, whose lives were tragically taken,” added Mr Doherty.
