“You can always count on us,” Tusk assured Zelensky
The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a bilateral security cooperation agreement today in Warsaw.
According to the text of the agreement released by the office of the head of the Polish prime minister, the total value of Poland’s aid to Ukraine “exceeds four billion euros”.
The agreement document specifies that since the start of the Russian offensive in early 2022, “Poland has donated 44 batches of various weapons and ammunition” and provided assistance “in the form of training, logistics, supplies, maintenance and repairs, as well as field of medical assistance.
Overall, the agreement states, the Poland has trained 22,000 members of the Ukrainian armed forces.
“You can always count on us,” Tusk assured Zelensky, immediately after signing this agreement, a day before the NATO summit in Washington.
Warsaw “will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine for as long as necessary,” the agreement states.
According to Tusk, Poland will continue to maintain on its territory the important hub intended to supply Kiev with Western weapons and will encourage Ukrainian citizens to return to Ukraine to participate in the defense of the country.
The agreement also provides for cooperation in the fields of defense industries, cyber security and intelligence services, as well as road and rail infrastructure between the two countries.
Poland has also pledged to support Kiev in its bid to join the EU and the NATO.
Kyiv has already signed similar agreements with about 20 countries.
