The Kremlin announced today that it will monitor “with the utmost care” the NATO summit which begins today in Washington, because the Alliance “considers Russia its enemy”.

“This is an alliance that considers Russia its enemy, its rival. An alliance which, time and time again, has openly stated that its goal is to deliver Russia a strategic defeat on the battlefield. For this reason, we will monitor with utmost attention the rhetoric of the talks that will be held and the decisions that will be made,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a press conference.

The leaders of the NATO member countries, which was enlarged after the accession of Finland and Sweden and now has 32 members, are meeting from today in Washington in a summit which aims to reaffirm their support for Ukraine.

NATO countries have been providing vital military aid to Kiev since the start of the war, following the Russian invasion in February 2022, despite Ukraine complaining that the support it receives remains insufficient.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who will attend the summit, is expected to again ask his Western allies for additional air defense systems.
