Former US President’s website Donald Trump showed this morning (US time) a picture of him with blood on his face to invite his supporters to donate to his campaign and come together in a spirit of unity and peace after Saturday’s shooting incident.

The website redirects potential donors to a page on the WinRed fundraising platform that shows a black and white photo taken by an Associated Press photographer which Trump has described as “iconic”.

It shows the line of blood on the Republican candidate’s face and his raised fist in defiance after a bullet went through the top of his right ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The photo is captioned with the words “FEAR NOT” in capital letters.

A message below the image says: “Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.” The page also features Trump’s signature and gives website visitors options to donate various amounts.

In an interview published late last night, Sunday, by the New York Post, Trump spoke about the photos showing him immediately after the shooting, including one posted on his campaign website.

“Many say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen,” Trump told the New York Post. “They’re right and I’m not dead. You usually have to die to have an iconic photo.”

Trump, who is running for the US presidency against Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in November’s election, was shot by a 20-year-old man with a semi-automatic rifle on Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, authorities said.

A Trump supporter at the rally was killed, two others were injured and the suspect was shot and killed by security agents. The FBI said it is investigating the shooting incident as attempted murder.

Leaders of both the Republican and Democratic parties, including Trump and Biden, appealed to the citizens of the deeply divided country to unite and keep calm after the shooting incident.

A Trump-backed GoFundMe campaign for the victims of the former president’s rally shooting had raised more than $3.5 million by the end of yesterday.
