US President Joe Biden tested positive for the coronavirus during his pre-election trip to Las Vegas.

“I feel good,” the US president told reporters as he boarded Air Force One.

“He is vaccinated and boosted and experiencing mild symptoms,” White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said. She also added that the US president will be flown to his home in Delaware, where he will “self-isolate and continue to fully perform all of his duties during this period.”

According to his doctor, the US president “presented symptoms in the upper respiratory system, including a runny nose, non-productive cough and general malaise”. After testing positive, he received his first dose of the antiviral drug Paxlovid.

Joe Biden was scheduled to speak at the Las Vegas event as part of an effort to rally Hispanic voters ahead of the November election.
