THE Yael Brown-Pivetfrom President Macron’s party, was re-elected president of the French National Assembly, after receiving 220 votes and securing a relative majority of its members.
Second place was occupied by André Sasséni, from the left-wing New People’s Front, receiving 207 votes, while third place was occupied by Sébastien Senou, on behalf of Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Alarm, with 141 votes.
Earlier, the first round was held, from which there was no “white smoke” as none of the six candidates was elected.
First came André Sasséni, from the New People’s Front of the left, receiving 200 votes, while the second place, with 142 votes, was occupied by Sebastien Senou on behalf of the far-right National Alarm of Marine Le Pen. Tuesday came, with 124 votes, the outgoing president Yael Braun-Pivet from President Macron’s party and fourth, with 48 votes, Philippe Jouvin from the Republicans. In fifth place, with 38 votes, came Naima Moussou, who is a member of the Horizons party that cooperates with the Macron faction, and sixth, with 18 votes, was Charles De Courçon, an independent MP.
Shortly after the announcement of the results of the first round, they announced that Philippe Jouvin from the Republicans and Naima Moutsu from the Horizons were withdrawing. Their withdrawal is estimated to be largely in favor of the candidate of the Macron faction, Yael Braun-Pivet, who cannot be ruled out in the second round to take first place, even if by a small margin. And this is because the Horizons cooperate with the Macron faction, while as far as the Republicans are concerned, information indicates that they may also cooperate with the Macron faction, receiving in return some of the important “posts” of the French National Assembly. Given that in the first two rounds the president is elected only on the condition that he or she gathers an absolute majority, a third round will probably take place, where the first in votes among the candidates is now elected. Finally, it is noted that voting is secret.
