Donald Trump formally accepted the nomination of his Republican Party during his speech at his convention in Milwaukee on Thursday night
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump promised in his speech at his party’s convention in Milwaukee to end illegal immigration from “day one” of his possible new term, “closing the borders”, while he pledged to complete the construction of the anti-immigration wall on the border with Mexico.
“I will end the illegal immigration crisis by closing our borders and finishing the wall,” the former president assured, revisiting his grandiose plans for the problem that stumbled over many roadblocks, and in courtrooms, during his first term.
Besides, he promised that he would “save” the country by the “incompetent and failed” administration of his Democratic successor Joe Biden, reiterating his theory that America is a “nation in decline.”
He pledged that he would favor the exploration and exploitation of oil fields, in other words that he would undo measures to prevent climate change received by Mr. Biden’s administration. He promised to redirect all funds allocated to what he called the “green scam”.
He also called not to “demonize” the opposition and “political dissent”, referring to the criminal charges against him.
Some 24 hours after the assassination attempt, the former president demanded that Democrats “immediately” stop calling him an “enemy of democracy,” a “threat” to the state — while at the same time accusing the rival party of “it’s destroying our country.”

“I had God with me”
Trump asked during his speech at his party’s convention in Milwaukee (Northern USA) to observe a minute’s silence in honor of a firefighter who died when a gunman attempted to kill him in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“Despite this heinous attack, we are united tonight (and) more determined than ever,” said Mr. Trump, who earlier formally accepted his party’s anointing and will seek the presidency in the Nov. 5 election.
He detailed his assassination attempt. As soon as he heard the gunfire, “I immediately understood that it was something very serious, that we were under attack,” he recounted, in his first public speech after the attempt, still wearing a bandage over his right ear.
“There was blood everywhere. And yet, in a way, I felt safe, because I had God with me,” he added.

He accepted the anointing
In the meantime, Donald Trump formally accepted the nomination of his party, the Republicans, during his speech at his convention in Milwaukee on Thursday night (local time; early Friday Greek time).
“With faith and devotion, I proudly accept your anointing” he stressed, addressing the delegates in Wisconsin (northern USA).
He predicted “unbelievable victory” in the Nov. 5 election, promising “the four most beautiful years in the history” of the US if he returns to the White House.
He also tried to appear unifying, a few twenty-four hours after his assassination attempt in Pennsylvania: “I am a candidate to become the president of all america, not half of it,” he assured.

“Hamas will pay ‘very dearly'”
The Republican candidate for the presidency of the USA also referred to the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, claiming that “it would never break out” if he were president, while addressing “the whole world” he emphasized “I tell you this: our hostages the good I want you to have returned before I take power, because otherwise you will pay very dearly,” apparently referring to the Palestinian Islamist movement.
More broadly, Mr Trump portrayed himself as a leader of great international standing, able to end conflicts “with a phone call”, recalling his negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. “I think he misses me,” joked Mr. Trump, promising that if he returned to the White House, North Korea, a country with a nuclear arsenal, would stop its missile tests. ..) See the attack on Israel. Look at what is happening in Ukraine,” he said.
