The Mash Telegram channel said a 60-year-old parishioner was killed around 8:30 a.m. local time after a drone fired eight missiles at the Agios Nikolaos monastery.
A Ukrainian unmanned aircraft (drone) hit a monastery in the Kursk region of Russia today, as regional governor Alexei Smirnov reported on the Telegram application today.
Telegram’s Mash channel said a 60-year-old parishioner was killed around 8:30 a.m. local time after a drone fired eight missiles at the Saint Nicholas Belogorsky monastery in Gormal, a village near the border with Ukraine.
There is no immediate comment from Ukrainian authorities on the attacks, which Reuters could not independently confirm.
Like other Russian border regions, the Kursk region is frequently attacked by Kievan forces. On Tuesday, July 16, a drone attack on an electrical appliance factory in the city of Korenevo caused a fire without injury.
The men’s monastery was founded in 1671 and was once home to author Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who captured his conversations with the monks in his novel “The Brothers Karamazov,” according to the monastery’s website.
A child was injured in a previous attack on the monastery last August, according to Mash.
