The Parliament of Libya gave today vote of confidence in new governmentheaded by the former Minister of the Interior Fati Basagaignoring the current government of Abdelhamid Dbeiba based in Tripoli and refuses to hand over power.
In votingwhich is expected to escalate tensions between the two rival factions, Parliament approved the Basha’s government by a vote of 92 to a total of 101 deputies present, as its chairman announced at the end of the sitting.
THE meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, began with the reading of the names of members of the government (29 ministers, three vice-presidents and 6 deputy ministers). Only two women are on the cabinet.
THE every Member hearing his name he should answer that he “trusts” or “does not trust”, but Parliament Speaker Angila Saleh announced that the government received the vote of confidence before the reading of all the names was completed.
Parliament Speaker Abdallah Blichek then said the government had received the House’s approval, with 92 votes in favor.
On the 10th of February Parliament had instructed Basaga to form a government, replacing Dbeiba. But the latter insists he will only hand over power to an elected government.
