The Democratic senator Bob Menendez will step down from his post on August 20, a New Jersey Globe reporter said today in a X post citing three sources with knowledge of the intentions of the senator, who was found guilty of corruption, thus writing the epilogue to the political career of the once powerful executive of the Democrats.

The 70-year-old Menendez, who until last September was the chairman of the powerful Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate, denied the charges against him: bribery and the exercise of undue influence in exchange for the benefit of Egypt and Qatar in particular, obstruction of justice, as well as that he was acting as an agent of a foreign government.
