A show of force by Russia amid tensions with the West over the war in Ukraine. Moscow announced on Tuesday that it is conducting military exercises with Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

In a statement the Russian Ministry of Defense said that “military personnel in the exercises perform intensive maneuvering actions, including operations in forested areas aimed at increasing the stealth of the launches.”

This is the second exercise taking place this month, with the Russian Ministry of Defense announcing them on July 5.

Russia has recently increased the number of military exercises involving the use of nuclear weapons, some of which have also involved the participation of military personnel from neighboring Belarus.

Last month, Russia and Belarus began the second stage of joint non-strategic nuclear exercises, during which troops from both countries trained to use such weapons in combat.
