Heavy rain caused a dam to collapse in the Chelyabinsk region of central Russia on Friday, prompting authorities to evacuate several nearby villages, local authorities said.

The regional government of Chelyabinsk in the southern Ural mountains said on the Telegram messaging app that a 100-meter section of the dam at the Kyalimsky reservoir had collapsed and four villages were at risk of flooding.

In total, about 200 people are under immediate threat, with authorities saying dozens were initially evacuated and no injuries reported.

Rescue teams from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry and the Karabash regional center were dispatched to the area, while reception centers were set up for evacuees.
