The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon and the commander of the peacekeeping forces in that country appealed in the early hours of the morning to the parties to exercise “maximum restraint” on the Israel-Lebanon border, after the launch of a rocket that killed children and teenagers in the occupied and annexed Golan Heights yesterday Saturday, a development which further raises the tension in the region.

The attack on a soccer field in a Druze village in the Golan Heights killed 12 people, including children. Israel blamed the Lebanese Hezbollah movement for the launch. The movement denied responsibility.

In a joint statement via X, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Janine Hennis-Plaschert and Aroldo Latharo, head of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (FINUL in French, UNIFIL in English), warn that a further escalation of hostilities between to the Israeli armed forces and Hezbollah threatens to cause “unbelievable destruction throughout the region”.
