Beirut International Airport announced several flight cancellations to the Lebanese capital after Israel warned of “harsh” retaliation following a rocket attack on the Golan Heights that killed at least 12 children.

The canceled flights were scheduled to depart from Athens, Stockholm, Dusseldorf, Addis Ababa, Ankara, Antalya and Adana today Monday, as announced by Beirut-Rafik Hariri International Airport early Monday.

The German airline group Lufthansa announced today that it has decided to suspend flights to and from the Lebanese capital, Beirut, until at least tomorrow, Tuesday, July 30, due to the escalation of tension.

The flights of the group companies (Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings, Lufthansa) were decided to be suspended “as a precaution”, he explained.

Earlier, the Middle East Airlines announced delays for flights from London, Copenhagen, Doha, Dammam, Dubai and Jeddah to Beirut.

The airport also announced further delays to flights originating from Cairo and Istanbul.

The US Department of State issued a security alert, advising US citizens traveling to and from Lebanon to closely monitor their flights.

“The security environment in Lebanon remains complex and can change rapidly,” it said. “Airlines are reportedly considering temporary changes to their flight plans.”
