Consulate General staff, journalists and Greek citizens leave Mariupol

A humanitarian corridor for the exit of the citizens from Mariupol to the West opens today, Wednesday, March 2, at 11 in the morning.

Given the situation In the area of ​​Mariupol, it was decided to evacuate part of the staff of the Consulate General, all the journalists housed in the premises of the Consulate General, as well as Greek citizens wishing to leave, diplomatic sources said yesterday.

In particular, as it became known, the car procession under Ambassador Francesco Costelleno is expected to depart by road from Mariupol today at 11:00. It is noted that the movement will be done by the same means.

The Greek citizens who had expressed interest in leaving Mariupol are informed by the Consulate General and the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they point out.

The plan is for the procession to move to the city of Zaporizhia and then, depending on the conditions, to the border with Moldova, where there will be a staircase of the embassy in Bucharest under Ambassador Sofia Grammata to provide them with all possible assistance.

Consul General in Mariupol Manolis Androulakis, according to diplomatic sources, will remain at the Consulate General, which will continue to operate.
