Khamenei vowed revenge
Khamenei yesterday vowed revenge for the killing of Haniya, an act attributed to Israel.
He said he is “Tehran’s duty”, as the assassination took place in Iran’s capital.
“With this act, the Zionist criminal and terrorist regime has prepared the ground for a heavy punishment for it, and we consider it our duty to avenge the blood shed on the soil of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said in a statement broadcast by the Iranian news agency Irna.
Iran “will defend its territorial integrity, dignity, honor and pride and make the occupying terrorist forces regret this cowardly act” of killing the Hamas leader, Iran’s president said. Massoud Pezeskianas reported by Iranian media.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said the Hamas leader’s blood “will not be wasted.”
“The testimony of Haniya in Tehran will strengthen the deep and unbreakable bond” of Iran, Palestine “and the resistance,” Mr. Kanaani said, according to Iranian state media.
The secretary of the political office of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, was killed by a rocket that hit the building where he lived, during his stay in Tehran. The Iranian authorities announced yesterday that the missile was launched from foreign territory and not from Iranian territory.
The 62-year-old head of Hamas’ political office, Ismail Haniya, was based in Doha.
According to Iranian media, he was killed at around 02:00, while he was in a “special residence for war veterans” in the northern part of the Iranian capital.
“The brother, the leader, the mujahid (s.b. ‘holy warrior’) Ismail Haniya, the head of the movement, was killed in a Zionist raid on his home in Tehran after attending the swearing-in of the new president” of the Islamic Republic of Pezeskian, Hamas said in a statement.
