Ukrainian air force pilots have begun flying F-16 fighter jets into Ukrainian airspace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today, confirming the long-awaited arrival of the US-made fighter jets, more than 29 months after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president announced the availability of the aircraft, which Kiev had been asking for since the first year of the war, as he met with the pilots at an air base, with two F-16 fighters in the background, while two other fighters of the same type were flying overhead .

“The F-16s are in Ukraine. We did it. I am proud of our children who operate the fighters and have already started using them for our country”, he said.
