Fourteen people were injured, many of them in a market, by Ukrainian shelling in the city of Oleski in Khersoncontrolled by Russia, the region’s Moscow-appointed governor announced.

In Luhansk, in the northeast Ukraine, local governor Leonid Pachetnik, also appointed by Russia, reported that Ukrainian forces fired 12 missiles at various targets, eight of which were intercepted. The number of victims is unclear.

Reuters is unable to independently verify the claims on either side.

In Oleski, the head of the local administration Andrei Aleksejenko reported that eight people were injured in the first attack, the bombing of the city’s market. Ukrainian drones then hit homes, breaking windows and causing fires. Another six people were injured in the second attack.

Russian forces took control of Kherson in the early days of the war, following the invasion in February 2022. Ukrainian troops recaptured much of the province later that year.

The Olesky is located on the eastern bank of the Dnieper river. Ukrainian officials say Russian forces are still shelling Ukrainian positions from areas they control.
