A delegation formed by organizations of the Brazilian black movement is on its way to Chile to attend the inauguration of the elected Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, on the 11th of this month. In all, 15 people were assigned to the trip.
As anticipated by the column, the director of the Marielle Franco Institute, Anielle Franco, was personally invited to Boric’s inauguration ceremony. In addition to her, the president of the PSOL, Juliano Medeiros, and the vice president of the Republic, Hamilton Mourão (PRTB) should also attend the ceremony.
Comprised of members of organizations such as Instituto de Referência Negra Peregum, Instituto Marielle Franco, Uneafro Brasil and Casa Sueli Carneiro, the entourage of the black movement also has scheduled meetings with Chilean constituent deputies.
Before arriving in Santiago, the group arrives in Colombia this Wednesday (2) to meet with authorities, social movements and civil society organizations.
The envoys plan to address topics such as the advancement of progressive agendas in the two neighboring countries, such as the decriminalization of abortion in Colombia, and greater participation in politics by underrepresented groups.
“It’s an opportunity to learn from Colombian black women communication and mobilization strategies for the construction of a female and black candidacy for the Presidency, a fact that is still unprecedented for us in Brazil”, says Tainah Pereira, political coordinator of the Movimento Mulheres Negras Decidem.
