Donald Trump’s campaign said yesterday it had been hacked, accusing Iran of hacking into its internal communications and stealing documents, including a dossier on vice-presidential candidate J. D. Vance.

Politico reported that it received emails from an anonymous user with internal campaign documents attached.

Emails containing documents from the Trump campaign began arriving at Politico on July 22 and continued for the next several weeks.

The anonymous sender — who used an AOL email account and identified himself only as “Robert” — sent documents that appeared to be internal briefings from a senior Trump campaign official.

Among the documents was the investigation that the Trump campaign had apparently done for the vice presidential candidate, the Ohio senator Jay Dee Vancedated February 23.

The documents were authentic, according to two Politico sources. One of the two sources described the file on Vance as a preliminary investigation.

The investigation was a 271-page document based on publicly available information about Vance’s past and statements, with some references — such as negative comments about Trump — labeled as “potential vulnerabilities».

The sender also sent some research on the senator from Florida Marco Rubiowho was among the possible vice-presidential candidates.

“Robert” told Politico that he had a wealth of documents, from Trump’s legal and court documents to internal campaign discussions.

Asked how he obtained the files, the person replied: “I would tell you not to be curious about where I got them from. Any answer to this question will put me in jeopardy and also get you legally banned for publishing them.’

The scope of the information the hacker obtained is unclear, but it’s clear that it’s serious security breach of the Trump campaign, Politico reports.
