UN: More than one million Ukrainian refugees

by

More than a million people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded the country last week, said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grady.

“In just seven days, we have witnessed the exodus of one million refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countries,” Grady said via Twitter.

“For many millions of others in Ukraine, it is time for the guns to be silenced so that life-saving humanitarian aid can be distributed,” he said.

Mr Grady plans to travel in the coming days to Romania, Moldova and Poland, three countries that have welcomed large numbers of refugees.

The UN General Assembly on Wednesday adopted by an overwhelming majority a resolution that “demands that Russia immediately stop resorting to violence against Ukraine.”

On the battlefield, Russian forces continue to advance and it has been confirmed that they have occupied Kherson, a large city in southern Ukraine.
