Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is visiting Turkey today and tomorrow.

Today at 18:30, the Palestinian president will have a meeting with the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while tomorrow he will address the Plenary of the Turkish National Assembly, which is on summer vacation and will hold an extraordinary meeting for this purpose.

During his visit to Parliament, Abbas will first have a bilateral meeting with Turkish National Assembly Speaker Numan Kurtulmus and then meet with President Erdogan.

The Plenary meeting will follow at 15.00 and, after Kurtulmus’ opening speech, Mahmoud Abbas will take the floor. President Erdogan will attend the speech in the plenary hall.

After the special session of the Turkish National Assembly, Abbas and Erdogan will tour the Palestine-themed photo exhibition on the Parliament grounds. According to the Cumhuriyet newspaper, the report includes photos of the assassinated head of the Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniya, from his visits to Turkey.

On July 27, speaking in his hometown of Rizunda in northeastern Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said some parties criticized the government for not inviting the president of the Palestinian Authority to Turkey to address Parliament. “Mr. Abbas, who did not come even though we invited him to forgive us, should first apologize to us. We invited him but he didn’t come. We are waiting to see if he will come,” the Turkish president said at the time. A few days later, the visit of Mahmoud Abbas to Turkey and his speech to the Turkish National Assembly was announced.
